Report

Well if anyone had Chocolate overload from the Easter break it sure wasn’t evident  from the boys when we took on Triabunna up the coast last Saturday.

Our Colts boys under the captainship of Macca put on great show  this week with Toby Pears having a blinder in the first half running hard at the ball and snagging 4 goals for his efforts. Jac Standen has carried over his fine form from last season, Jimmy Craik was a real inspiration with his hard attacking footy and, Scott Ellerton was the backline general, repelling attack after attack. Luke Batchelor has a safe pair of hands and his 3 goal effort must have put the Triabunna boys on notice he is going to be a force to be reckoned with. Kane Oates got into the best players list with a very strong performance as well as contributing to the goal tally. This 11 point win sets us off on the ladder tally board and I’m sure Coach Evans will be looking for some more premiership points game of this nature for season 2009.

The Resssies 134 point win was a good rebound from their first game of the season with Luke Hill showing no sign of Laryngitis even though he must have boosted Telstra’s share price during the week making calls to get Kane Hurlihy into the side. Micky O must have mistaken his chocolates for red cordial over Easter running around kicking goals from everywhere,
( 5 in all ) Dean Graham was playing like a 20 year old ( He’s the only guy in the team that wears his age on his Jumper. He kicked 4 goals as did Whitey and Willo. Michael (Crikey ) Craik got into the best player list along with Banga and Mickey Evans with solid performances.

Well Ackers turned up to the ground and he was stunned. There was green stuff all over the ground and on closer inspection this proved to be grass. His charges must have liked it as well, flying out of the blocks with a 7 goal 7 to 1 goal 2 first quarter blitz and even though we took the foot off the gas in the last quarter the 34 point win was a sweet reward when looking back at the same game last year. John Ferguson booted 6 goals in his arguably best game for some time. Speedy Standen continues to be a match winner and Nuggy Kane doesn’t know the word retreat. Matty Triffet and the Trim Taught and Terrific Troy (Mowser) Hitchens pushed the envelope on the word commitment. Spud Tate is playing back into form as is Bakes Donoghue. Ackers showed on the field what he expects from the boys with respect to hard work and discipline.
Going into a Bye this  weekend will enable Shorty Nelligan and Weiry to get back into the Trenches at the Sorell RSL club. Shorty must have thought the Mortars were flying early last week with a direct hit on the windscreen of his shiny new car.
If you have any action photos from any of our games they can be sent to Tim Weir at tim.weir@dpac.tas.gov.au and I’ll get them put on the website.
