| Report |
Abbotsfield Park has been the Nemisis of our Colts team on many occasions but not so last Saturday.
The Eagles 21 point win over the Magpies was all the more sweeter due to the fact we went into the game with only 19 players. Mr. Predictable, Jordan Chapman got his standard 3 goals and top spot in the best players list. Macca, Flynnie, Toby Pears, Jimmy Craik and Pez rounded out the best six players whilst Jezza and Toby worked hard all day with Johnno, Millsy, Jimmy and Jac Standen doing all that was asked of them from Coach Evans putting the score on the board. The wet ground made for a hard slog and, a bit of grass surfing on the wing but, the resulting 4 points was well worth the effort.
One man who it was best to avoid after the Reserves game was Coach Luke Hill. In what he described was the teams worst performance to date, we saw his boys go down to the Pies by 96 points. With best players hard to pick Ryan Walker, Sparky Chandler, Adam Kaine, Whitey, Belg and Clint King got the nod. Alex Williams was the only multiple goal scorer with singles coming from Kane Oates, Macca, Whitey, Banga and Clinton King. The Heavy going was not to our advantage and whilst not making excuses our severely undermanned side were left wanting by a hungrier opposition.
The Seniors game looked like a scene from “ the shoot out at the OK Corral” with the Eagles getting winged by 44 points. Our first quarter was in stark contrast to our normal game as we got off to a great start to lead by 14 points. Claremont then piled on 11 goals in the second quarter which seemed to take the wind out of our sails.
Bentley was kicking goals that would make Maradona look average, snagging 5 as did Speedy. Wombat got 2 and singles came from an army of triers Nuggy, Morgs, Simsy, Pfeiffer the elder, Willo, Gods and Ackers.
Assistant Coach Tim White had a real task when it came to nominating best players with Willo, Speedy, Bents, Whitey, Gods and Ackers finally getting the nod.
This weeks Rep Games at North Hobart on Sunday should be a Bewdy. At the time of writing this report, Gabe Morgan, Grant Williams. Henry Pfeiffer, Cam Howlett, Sam Perkins have all been named in the final U 19’s squad. Sorell along with New Norfolk are the only 2 teams with 5 representatives chosen, this is testament not only to the personal abilities of the players but to their Coaches also. Congratulations and good luck.
