Report

Well what a start to the season. You can’t blame the weather as it was perfect at Pembroke Park

Our Colts had their first full run together as a team and, with new faces every year this must be the hardest team to formulate and whilst they went down to Cygnet by 19 points they put on a great game for the start of the season. Jordan Chapman had a great day with the ball so did Jac Standen and three of our new recruits, Johnson and Batchelor and Oates. Our main goal kicker with 2 goals was Glenn Mills whilst Brown, Chapman and Eisenkoeck chipped in for one each to start their tallies for the year.

It was hoped having the SFL General Manager Angus Adams present the 2008 Premiership Pennant to the Ressies they may have started the season off with a win but alas they went down to the visitors by 7 points. Trapper Wright’s 4 goals was possibly the highlight for our team with the Old stager Dean Graham ( why did I say I’d do this ) chipping in for 2 goals. A welcome back to Mike Craik saw him get a mention in the best players as did Matt and Luke White with Josh Needham, Tom Williams and Trapper rounding out the 6 best for the Eagles

Seniors Coach Fabian ( Ackers ) Ackroyd had a smile on his face like a cat coming out of a dairy as the final siren sounded showing his charges had notched up a 67 point win to kick off their season.
Brett ( Spaz ) Howard had a blinder of a first game back as did John Ferguson ( 5 goals ) Nathan Kaine ( 4 goals ) Troy ( Mowser ) Hitchins Trent Standen and Nathan Williams.
Chris Crossin’s 4 goals showed his accuracy around goal will be a telling point come the end of season leading goal kicker awards. I’d like to think it was the new look shorts and socks that spurred them on to a win but, I’m pretty sure it was the hard work on the training track that got the boys over the line in quite convincing form.

Our first function for the year was a cracker being  a fancy dress theme, and we had everything from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Zorro ( The fox so cunning and free) Jack Sparrow made an appearance as did some Construction workers, Motocross bike riders, A provoktive French Maid,Chopper Reid and a Naughty Police Woman, Micky O looked pretty cool ( I wonder who tied his tie ) and Grizelda the wicked witch on the door didn’t really need any make up. Michelle (sic ) Keefe certainly turned a few heads.

We will attempt to keep our web site up to date with a list of up coming functions to keep you informed as well as info on Memberships and Merchandise sales. If you have any action photos from any of our games they can be sent to Tim Weir at tim.weir@dpac.tas.gov.au and I’ll get them put on the website.
